Our Staff

The Austin staff is quite unique. They all started as Egoscue clients, and are comprised of two married couples. If you are just starting your journey with Egoscue, chances are good that at least one of them started out just like you. Rick and Theresa Mathes moved to Austin in 2003 from Thousand Oaks, California after Pete Egoscue asked them if they would like to open the first Egoscue franchise. They chose Austin for many reasons and the move has proven to be a great fit. Ralph and Rosie Gehlbach moved to Austin from Denton, Texas in 2007 after Rick and Theresa offered them their current positions at the Austin clinic.

Clinic Director
Exercise Therapist

Rick grew up in Tucson, Arizona and graduated from the University of Arizona where he met his wife, Theresa. He held a position at Hughes Aircraft in Tucson for many years before being recruited in 1996 by Western Data Systems/Manugistics in Calabasas, California as a software architect/designer. While living in California, he discovered the Egoscue Method and began frequent seven-hour round-trip visits to the San Diego clinic. Rick had been experiencing chronic, debilitating pain since he was involved in a near-fatal auto accident six years prior. Doctors told him he would never run or play tennis again despite 19 months of physical therapy six times per week. Miraculously, in less than one year, Rick’s pain was gone; he was off all medications and was even back running and playing tennis again without pain. After experiencing how life changing the benefits of Egoscue can be, he became a certified Postural Therapist and opened the first franchised clinic with his wife, Theresa in Austin, Texas in 2003. Rick works with clients in the Austin clinic, gives talks at various businesses, and conducts frequent travel clinics to Dallas and Houston with another therapist. He also sees clients at a distance both by video and by digital photos.

After attending her freshman year at Iowa State University, Theresa attended the University of Arizona where she studied business and computers and met her husband, Rick. They have been married since 1984 and have a son, Bryan Joseph, who was born in 1992. They moved to Thousand Oaks, California in 1997 where they worked for the same computer software company. Theresa worked in the Quality Assurance department testing the software. Theresa was surprised to discover that on top of a brain tumor that was discovered in 1990, she also had six herniated discs in her neck, stenosis, spinal cord and nerve damage. She went to Egoscue in San Diego hoping to avoid having her entire neck fused and to get some relief from the claustrophobic, debilitating pain she was in. It took some time but she was successful in avoiding the surgery, and moved all the discs back into place and currently has no sign of stenosis. Theresa was so moved by how Egoscue could give her life back in her control that she and her husband went through the training that Egoscue offered and completely changed what they both did for a living. Rick anTheresa opened the first franchised Egoscue clinic on November 3, 2003 in Austin, Texas. Theresa sees clients in the Austin clinic, conducts a monthly workshop and sees clients at a distance both by video and by digital photos.

Ralph Gehlbach   Ralph Gehlbach
Exercise Therapist
Travel Clinic Therapist

ralph@egoscue.com

Ralph brings over 35 years of experience in management, teaching, and engineering to the Austin clinic. Ralph discovered Egoscue by deciding to keep his wife, Rosie, company while she did her "menu" every morning. To his surprise he began to get results in areas he thought he would just have to learn to live with. For several years, Ralph had experienced poor circulation from blood clots and peripheral neuropathy, as well as disturbing numbness in his feet up to his hips and pelvic area. While E-cising alongside Rosie for several weeks, he began to experience healthy sensations returning to all of those areas. He also noticed his shoulders were more level, and that the carpal-tunnel symptoms in both wrists, as well as pain from an eight-year-old rotator cuff injury, were gone. Amazingly, so was his chronic back pain. Ralph began attending travel clinics with Rosie in Dallas. Today, Ralph is in charge of those very travel clinics and is a therapist in the Austin clinic.

Rosie Gehlbach   Rosie Gehlbach
Office Manager
Posture Alignment Therapist

rosie@egoscue.com

Rosie has held several leadership positions at various universities in Alabama and Texas. She comes to Egoscue from the University of North Texas where she was the Coordinator of an online master's curriculum. Rosie started with Egoscue by checking out two of Pete Egoscue’s books from the library. She had two herniated discs in her low back and a sore and chronically swollen knee and was trying to avoid surgery at the time. By carefully following the book, The Egoscue Method of Health Through Motion, Rosie was able to finally get relief from her pain. She was able to get even more relief when she started attending the Dallas travel clinic. Rosie is now the Office Manager for the Austin clinic and a trained therapist.
